Test your High speed run on a runway

Every year here in Terre Haute Indiana we have a mayors ride. The ride starts at Wabash Valley Harley with a police escorted parade on the outskirts of town to the Hulman Airport (HUF). Once you get to the airport your the ride breaks up cruiser to the right sport bikes on the left make the turn onto a runway and have a 1-2 mile run it to the redline sprint to the end of the runway.

After the ride down the airstrip i will be breaking off for a ride of my own through some of the twisties in Indiana. If anyone interested let me know and i can provide more information.
 
wow they let people do that? I would love to see the waiver they sign..

I hearby hold harmless everyone for this next act... ballz out with 400 other guys on a 2 mile run? eeek brother, gotta be more to this story... :laugh:
 
Not much more to it, just a few ground rules before the ride about watch out for others and the faster you want to go the farther to the left of the runway you stay.
 
Wow, they actually let the entire group go all out all at the same time? That sounds like about the dumbest idea I've heard in a VERY long time. I can't believe they would let that happen. Anyone with any sense about them would have everyone make a run by themselves. Or at the very least, one on the far left and one on the far right.
 
I just read about it and found nothing allowing high speed runs on the runway but, it would be great to have a sanctioned (legal) place to do some top end runs. Who would take on the liability question if someone went down? Surely not the individual bike owner's insurance company???

The article does not mention the high speed run down the runway, because of legal matters on that issue. It does happen every year though. As far as liability its on the owners most insurance companies will not cover a sanctioned event (even a parade). Also part of the entry forms to fill out upon the arrival at the event is a wavier form that releases all responsiblities onto the owner operators of the vehicles. So basically ride at your own risk.

Like i said before it might sound stupid but it works and its a lot of fun. And if your a legal critic or someone who just wants to nit pick the system its not for you. Just like going to the race track for track day, its all on you.
 
the only thing that could make that one of those "great idea" type things would be disguised potholes randomly placed throughout the runway surface. Oh, and a few land mines.

Since the high speed runs are to the left I hope the turn-off is to the right :whistle:

here in NY at the end of june the have the annual "pride ride"...the ride is to collect toys for the marines to give to less fortunate kids at christmas time...and at the end of the ride we get to go down the elmira/corning regional airport runway...and lets say there is no speed limit...so give it all you dare...:thumbsup:
