I installed diamond powersports illuminated sliders on my 08. I dont think this part of the frame has changed. I think I ordered 07 Sliders and they fit perfectly.

So you cut the fairing?

My 03 had sliders that went into the fairing stay. Not as beefy and were not tested.

Is the bigger bolt and cut the fairing the standard/approved approach?

If you have the frame slider that mount using your fairing bolt get rid of it and get one that attaches to your engine mount bolt. The one that attaches using the fairing bolt is a piece of shid.

Yep, use the search function here, cutting the fairing has to be done to get to the bolt you should use. Not that difficult to do, just remember to measure 6 times and cut once. Lots of neat ideas on how to center the cut around the bolt.
