Default Lean map & MR9 caused some damage $$

I have a Gen II in for a tear down. Bike had a base map. Suspected spun bearing (major brass/gold flake in the oil). Owner did not want me to just fix the bearing wanted me to narrow down cause. Good news is cause is related to the lean tune. Spark plugs had 9 heat rings in some spots, bike was running on MR9 with big tube exhaust, high flow filter and detonation did occur beating on the bearings causing some pre-mature failure along with conventional oil. More pictures later and a good note is this bike might run a little better when we are done. The Irridium tips melted on two plugs cylinder 3&4 ...

Photos very shortly.

These are the hot plugs...you can see the melted plug electrodes and they are slightly curled, have pulled a few Gen II plugs these are the worse I have seen..

Bronze colored material located at bottom of the pan tells there is a bearing or two in trouble.

I will tear down the rest of the motor and see whats going on down stairs. Excessive clutch material on top of the above was located in the oil pick-up screen..

Wow...that's a lot of flake in there. Bad stuff. Hope I never ever see that in my pan.

Its not necessarily the fuel a combination of everything listed contributed. I did not know this bike was this hurt before I took the job. I am guessing the head gasket had a leak or two as well.

Dude that sucks. This may be a dumb question, but why would one want to run MR9 on base generic map? I guess would one thing to run on stock engine where it could adjust itself, but on a PC or bazazz or such I would be leary to run with out tuning for.

what is the crystallization? thats pretty nasty. what was the base map? stock or canned?

takes alot of heat to melt an iridium.

i wish i could find it. there was a ford gt running leaded race fuel. horrible deposits on heads.

More photos later. Bike has blown head gasket...with skip over between cylinder walls and at the water jackets and with some pretty toasty valves...

4-3-2- (1) appears to be ok, video coming. Getting new crank. Cheaper than fixing three journals (shipping) on this one. Later...
