Hmmmm, does the clutch sleeve hub nut need to be loosened for these six bolts?? From memory I don't think so. I may look into one night this week. (maybe tonight?). When changing the clutch mod on my Gen 1 - I left the bike in gear stomped on the brake and twisted a breaker bar and it came loose.

Is there a clutch procedure thread. I'm not sure what you are looking for. (LOL) - I started a Brock Clutch Mod thread on here years ago with comments from legends such as DaveO, Brock and Johnnycheese! But it was more focused on the clutch mod as apposed to changing fibers and steels... Have a laugh ->

I have 4200 miles on my 08. I haven't heard any noises but decided to check them out.
I parked the bike in the shop and left it overnight. I didn't lean it off of the kickstand either. It's an easy check. Just remove the right cowling. Then remove the (I think there were around 12) bolts from the cover housing. Then bump it on the side with your hand to make it come off. I didn't even loose a drop of fluid. Mine bolts tight so I didn't mess with them. I thought about locktighting them but decided not to. I was a little concerned about messing up the gasket but it came off and went back on just fine.
This is definetly not worth taking in to the dealer to be out a bike for lord knows how long.
And who wants to have them dump your expensive oil on the floor.

i gave the guy in the "service dept." my vin# and he said my bike was not affected and this is for the "ignition wire recall". so i mentioned the service bulletin about the mild noise from the clutch cover and he gave me the same response. i emphasized that the recall applies to all 2008 but he wouldn't budge. i called another dealer to see if they would do it and they gave me the run around and said where you bought the bike would be more efficient with parts. what a f--king scam and now i'm stranded. does anyone know for sure that the vin# makes the difference with either possible problems? i am glad i didn't spend the extra coin on a extended warranty so i wouldn't have to deal with these monkeys if & when a problem like this happens. what a joke!

My R8 just turned 10k miles and the ticking noise had turned into a loud knocking. Dealer took care of it no problem. Thanks Cookie. Really appreciate the heads up.

Hayabusa.........the finest production bike ever built. I can't help but feel sorry for those guys who spend way too much money to buy all that chrome so they can all look alike and still don't know what it's like to ride a "real" motorcycle!

the clutch sleeve hub nut does not need to be R&R for this tsb. Pull the cover, R&R one 10 mm headed bolt at a time. FWIW - I used blue loctite as opposed to red thinking if they may hold without any loctite - I'd rather use blue in case I want to install the ultralight someday I now have on the shelf.

will this affect the fluid and seal if i back out each bolt one by one and add loc tite? i don't mind getting my hands dirty but i've never tackled the clutch area.

I did the Brocks cluch mod on my 08 @2300 miles no noises,cuz I used the blue locktite on everything. For those concerned about loosening/tightening the hub nut heres what I did. I used a piece of flat bar and drilled 2 holes that lined up with the pressure plate bolts and then let the other end of the flatbar contact the floor. this will hold the clutch and basket from turning.

Well thank you for the information but I may be in trouble all ready. I thought the clutch cover was on the left side when sitting on the bike. I'll know in 2 weeks when I take the bike apart to do my first service.

The clutch cover is on the right side - and is where oil is added. I think the hardest part is removing the cowling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After that there is about 12ish 8mm headed bolts to remove around the cover. Alternate to the most opposite position (12 o'clock then 6 - ETC..) Tap the cover with your hand or rubber mallet (leave 1 or 2 bolts in place very loose if possible). When the cover is off you can see the six bolts to R&R. Do same thing working on opposite sides.. I didn't take any pic's. Also - I just put the bike in gear - no needs to hold the basket still for me.

Went to the dealer and picked up a gasket and thread locker. Note that the TSB calls for strongest thread locker, 1303. Put bike on side stan ( no loss of oil ). Remove side fairing, remove clutch cover bolts and cover. I did two bolts at a time (opposites) to make seting up the torque wrench easier. Cleaned all threads with contact cleaner including the threads in the hub. Used 1303 on stud threads, one drop of blue locktight on spring retainer bolts. Torque and reassemble and you are set to go!

My bolts were OK but now I have peace of mind knowing the TSB has been done.

I took my bike in to the dealer today. I had an appointment at 10am and they did not start work on my bike until 11:30 but it was done at 1pm and they offered me my next oil change for free for waiting.

They do put new oil in for this job. It was easier to let them do it. I did my 600 mile service myself about 500 miles ago.

This happened to mine at the dragstrip.. I was really worried.. I took the cover off and just like the bulletin showed; two of the bolts had backed off and one of them was hitting the cover.. I just tightened them back up there and thought it was an Isolated thing.. I had not trouble with the gasket and it took about 30 minutes (because I removed the fairing). Thank God for this web site, at least I know that I am not alone..
