Take a look at the clutch salad I just pulled out of my buddies 04 Busa! Every one of the stems that the spring bolts attach to were loose with not a spec of lock tight. The one that did come loose destroyed the pressure plate and broke the spring which I believe parts off are in the oil pan so that will also have to be removed and cleaned. Metal shavings everywhere!

Any other suggestions on what to check or replace? So far the clutch plates look good inner and outer hub are scuffed but not cracked or broken. The Clutch Cover took a beating but will survive. So far the parts needed will include clutch spring, screw, stem, couple washers, and most important Pressure Plate. I have some spare springs and the other parts are not very expensive with the pressure plate being the most expensive at around $32.00.

I just bought a 2004 Sonic Sand Rail with a busa engine. Problem is between 2000 and about 5000 rpm the engine hesitates and misses. Often times about 4500-5500 rpm it pops out the carb...er....injection. After 6K rpm it runs great and at WOT it hauls a$$. I am not sure if it is a throttle position problem or an rpm related issue. It does not have any aftermarket mods that I know of. I would like to put a PC3 on it and get it tuned, but another issue is I don't know what year the engine is. It is definitely a 2003 or older. The Power Commander website states multiple part numbers for the earlier busas. Lastly, anyone know of a good tuning shop in the Phoenix area? Your guys help is greatly appreciated!!

My bike usually fires right up, sometimes it is a little slow on the starting usually when its hot out (or after or a stop on a ride). May take 3-4 tries and its like the battery is dead. Get it home on the charger and it wont take any, it comes and goes. Can this be the rectifier? What exactly does it do?

Also the starter getting old? Need a higher cranking battery?

TIA

Hello All,

Glad to be part of your forum. Just this monday I picked up an 06 Busa with just under 8k on the clock. Mods are PC3 and 2bros slip on exhaust.

The previous owner and I are stumped with a problem. I bought the bike knowing the speedometer wasn't working. It cycles fine at start up (pins itself then resets), but it didn't record any speed. He and I both came to the conclusion that it was probably the speed sensor. He ordered a new one and we just installed it today.

We put it on and it worked fine for a trip around the parking lot, and then suddenly stopped working again. Now that I rode it back home it was jumping all over the place and recording high.

He said it stopped working a few days after riding home in a rain storm.

Sorry for the long post, but wanted to put out all the info I have. Does anyone have any thoughts? The bolt holding the sensor to the housing seems to be pretty tight.

Really open to anything. Thanks in advance for any help.

I sold my '00 and bought a blue '08 over the summer. I put a new exhaust, power commander, laser jammer, and wiring for radar detector on the bike myself. I know I remember starting it up after putting everything on, and it sounded and ran fine, though I didn't actually ride it.

I've been busy lately so it's been sitting in the garage for about 3-4 months on front and rear stands. Stupid me haven't had the battery tender hooked up to it, so the battery was dead. I jumped it off, but it still won't start. It turns over like a champ, but won't fire. I looked at all the wiring I did, and everything seems connected and fine. I even unhooked the power commander completely and made it stock as far as that bit is concerned to see if it was botching something with the fuel, nothing. I unhooked the fuel like and nothing seems clogged, at least up to that point.

It only has 64 miles on it. I did a few burn in runs before I did all the work. I replaced the oil and filter as I was doing all of it.

I'm not very tech savy as far as troubleshooting engines, just the basics, so any help is appreciated.

1 week later, my Left side is leaking now!! Super irritated by what is happening. I wonder how this could have happened.

THe worse part is that the amount of engine oil getting leaked is so much more than what was previously leaked by the Right side.....

really sucks!

hello everyone, im hoping someone can help me with a problem.:please:

I have a 2001 model that I have installed a 1397 kit in, now the bike sounds like it has a vacuum leak but I believe all the lines are plugged in. The only thing I dont know about is the bike had a yosh box tune on the stock computer and now has a powercommander (this was installed before the 1397 kit). From what I understand the stock computer would need to be zeroed out back to stock. now the bike did run ok before with the same computer and pc on it before 6.06-126 1/8. Why would this happen? Another ? is from my understanding the 2001 is kind of a bastard year will another year model computer work with it. Any help with this vacuum leak problem would be SSSWWWEEEEEETTT........ I dont think the computer is the problem but at this point im open for anything.
Thanks for the help

ok heres the deal was riding a few days ago and my 06 with 6k miles just cut out around 9k rpm in you guessed it 2nd gear powers fine to 9k rpm sometimes passes to 10k rpm depending on how hard i throttle it. it feels almost like a chain or rear end issue even though i keep reading the 2nd gear issues:banghead: i dont ride wheelies ever i do accelerate hard through the gears from time to time never been to the track only mods are pc3 bolt on cans and bmc air filter. i always use clutch to shift its not going into neutral its just kinda feels like its cutting out or hiccuping ive never tried to keep pushing it passed it i just shift and then its fine havnt tried it in other gears since then either bcause i dont want to break something namely me . so my question is two fold. any ideas what the problem is and any one know a good shop in oklahoma and please dont suggest the dealership because i've had my feel of those buttholes. thanks for any help.

Hello all, me again!

Well, after scratching up enough money to finally take my 99 Busa to the most reputable shop in the area to get my PC3 tuned on Monday 2 Nov. 09. I got a phone call from them on Tuesday, I was hoping they was calling me to come and pick her up, but, this was not the case.

They were calling to tell me that while they were trying to get a good base map on her and up to about 50% throttle, they started to hear a loud knocking from the motor. :cursin:

They are guessing that I threw a rod and are now investigating.:please: They say that if I threw a rod, they would basically have to rebuild the motor...$1625 just for Labor/ no parts!

So, it looks like, my $200 job is gonna turn out to be about a $2000 job! I am waiting on the diagnosis today, so, if any of you know of someone getting rid of a good motor, please let me know!

Thanks

First off, hello all! Last Friday I finally(!), after 6 years of riding made my way up to my dream bike and am absolutely loving her. She's a 2000 busa with 19k miles in blue and silver and I think I'm in love.

I do have a problem though. When I've been out on her and she's warm, up to about halfway on the temp gauge, and I turn the ignition off she then won't start. There is a loud 'clicking', I would say louder than when you have a dying battery but it just will not go enough to fire. In the couple of times that it has happened it has worked fine after leaving the bike for half an hour.

There is a receipt in with all of my bits for a brand new starter relay bought and fitted by the previous owner in July of this year at a cost of over £300.

Any ideas? Thanks to all.
