Going to do the engine rebuild myself

Ok guys,
I have thought long and hard about this. I have done tons and tons of research and got some reasonable quotes for a 1397 12.5:1 package with drop in cams and a tranny undercut (the reason that I am having to do something, 2nd is screwed).

I have decided that I will probably use R&D for the tranny. Spoke with Mark yesterday and really liked the service he provides for the cost.

I have rebuilt several car engines over the years, but never a motorcycle engine.

I am looking for inputs on source of supply for the 1397 package and recommendations on the cams. I will be buying pieces parts over the 3-4 months so that I can do the engine over the winter.

I am also going to respring and re-valve the forks and mono shock for my weight.

So let me know what suggestions you guys have for cams and 1397 package.

Thanks in advance.

Don

BTW, the reason I have decided to do it myself is because I believe I can rebuild the entire thing like I want it for the cost of the labor to have someone else do it for me. I will have it tuned by a reputable tuner when I am done.

Have fun! If you can do a car, I don't see why you can't do the Busa motor.

Don - bring it up here. I'll be pulling my engine this winter, too! I'm determined to find that fuggin leak! I've got the system down - we can have both engines out and apart in an afternoon!

Omar, I appreciate the offer. I may take you up on it. If I get all the parts that I need to do it. We may make a weekend out of it. I still have some research to do about what it needs versus what I would like it to have.

Might want to add studs to your list.
Motor's not bad. Watch that #$#@ bolt under the balancer. Make something to keep your valve cups and shims in order or record them.
Can't help ya on the parts. I went turbo.
Have fun!

Yup - something like this?

don't go overboard on cam timing, tune for a little more midrange on the street. I would talk to a Hayabusa specialist builder about some minor head work.

Omar, I will use basically the same set up for keeping things in order, but I use zip lock bags with the label you can write on to keep things straight.

APE for the 1397 swap....
Cam's depends on what your looking for!
You will need a few special tools either home made or shop bought to do the forks and for dropping the engine. Not to mention degreeing your cams! Plus, the map for your power commander. You can do it give GeorgeC a shout over at suzukihayabusa.org
