Have just done this mod as well, but also added a BMC race filter and factory pro velocity stacks, and had my PC111 remapped, definately worth the effort, even before the dyno tune, and the sound coming from the intake is now

I did the mod last week swapped my stock filter for a K&N Filter. Man I feel the difference in throttle response.

The 08 has an entirely different design than the 99-07...

Bump for an answer. What exactly does this mod do? I like having a firm understanding of the functionality before I go hacking into my bike.

Been playing with this mod for a couple weeks, and got about 500 miles in the interim, and all I can say is poop, lost all kinds of top end; BUT, re-mapping may correct that, I just don't have the spare cash for re-dynoing now, so maybe next year. Can't say I noticed anything on the bottom end, but the top end definitely drags ass now. Hell, my boy on his 1000RR pulls on me at top end now. Tell me that ain't a depresser. It really doesn't make sense because at W.O.T., anything from a drag car to a super-bike can't do anything but love to breathe at top end, but not my girl. I've even been playing with spark plug heat ranges, monitoring if I'm to rich or lean, but with the air box mod, definitley lean!!!!! Be careful brothers, LEAN IS BAD!!!!!

it's just called the small air box mod because of the design of our air box and what has to be done to mod it. re-confirmed, took out the mod, went out to my little stretch where i can let her go, and yep, big pull at top end. don't know; don't get it; don't fricken understand cuz the laws of physics say it SHOULD pull harder at w.o.t., but not my girl. did notice a lil lag in the low-end now that I switched it back, which really don't make sense. oh well, save some loot over the winter, get with my boys and do some hard test & tune next spring.......

Large mod is where nearly the whole floor is cut out and a custom foam filter is used for filtering. Best left for that have a bigger engine, cams, etc. Some say it is overkill.

Maybe another 2-3hp. A BMC Race filter may give 1hp as well. So maybe 4-5hp total at most.

You may notice a huge flat spot between 2-4k if you snap the throttle open to fast.
