Can some give me a detailed description of how to remove the fuel pump and cleaning it?

What is the risk for doing this?

If it's the inside tank pump.
1. Remove tank from the bike. There's a electrical connector and quick release fuel line.
2. Empty most or all of the gas from the tank.
3. Mark with a felt pen an alignment mark on the Tank and feul pump cover. Helps later during reassembly.
4. Remove the bolts under the tank holding the fuel pump cover.
5. Work the fuel pump and gas level mecahnism out of the tank.

Fuel Pump filter is located in bottom of sump.
1. Mark with a felt pen the wire (Color code) on the pump. Helps during re-assembly. Getting the wires in right place. Also note the wire routing around the pump.
2. Remove the wires from the nut terminals.
3. May want to remove the fuel level mechanism. It's a bit gangly while working on the pump. Note how it's mounted to the top of the pump.
4. Remove the two side screws that are holding a metal arm from the bottom cover.
5. Giggle and pull straight up the pump away from the bottom sump cover. Make note how the pump is mounted. Felt pen marks are helpful. Although it only goes one way correctly. It can go on 180 degrees out and a waste of time

6. Remove the plastic fine mesh gas filter from the pump. Clean it in small amount of gassoline. Small brush helps getting all the grud off. Try not to get dirt inside the filter through it's top opening.
7. Clean the sump cover of all the grud.

Like climbing a tree, you got up there. Now get back down the same way. Everything in reverse. Goodluck
