Stator rectifier problem

My chrging system wouldn't charge so I went to trouble shoot it and this is what I found. The wire harness to the rectifier is completely melted(see pic) what would cause this and how do I fix it?

Butt splice the connection

That's pretty much what I did too. Splice it and you'll be fine.

When you splice this connection make sure you use good quality heat shrink butt connectors for a good connection and to keep the elements out, that way it does not pull more amps and melts again.
