my starter will make a sound that sounds like gears hitting each other and sometimes it will just engage and turn the engine over. do u think this might be the starter clutch

Yep starter clutch definitely. Mine when out on my old zx6 ninja and cost me $700 parts and labor to fix. Granted i had to have alot of my stuff replaced. Stop trying to start the bike as you are just making it worse and probly why so much of my stuff had to be replaced...

Did you drop the bike even in a parking lot? Sometimes things in the starter clutch fall out or become loose and it could be just as simple as something being pushed back in or small being replaced or it could be like my situation. Thats what the shop told me when i brought it in. Its a trustworthy shop that Im close with so he wasn't yanking my chain
