Earthing point

I'm still having trouble with my 99 in the wet, we striped it down to the plugs and can find no water getting in anywhere. Yet when it rains she runs like a devil dog droping one cylinder.

I've been told to check the main earth point from the battery but I'm buggered if I can see where it earths to the chassis/engine.

Can someone please point me in the right direction.

Someone must know, I have a feeling it might be down by the shifter somewhere.

From page 8-19 on my manual of the wiring routing it shows it goes to what looks like the engine:
You could run another one from the neg pole of the battery to a good connection on the frame somewhere. For that matter to a couple of places. That would prove the problem either way.
