Strange screeching noise out of nowhere

Ok so I am out on the bike for a laid back cruise before I had to work. I pull into work and turn off the bike and come back out after the shift. I engage the fuel pump and it seemed to make a funny noise. I ignored it and started the bike and when the bike is trying to turn over, it makes a nasty sound. It is a 2000 completely stock with only 7000 miles. Anybody had this problem? Please help! Thanks
