Starter Question.

I have been reading alot of threads about starter problems on the 99-02, has me alittle nervous, I called the guy i bought the bike off of and asked if had known about this he said yes and the dealer told him he checked the build date and that mine wasnt affected, was the dealer blowin smoke up his azz, should i look into replacing this before a problem, i dont hear a problem when i start it. need a little advise from the pros on this one. I know how dealers can be i get the same crap when it comes to my truck. thanks in advance..

Don't know if it only affected SOME of the '02's ???

A big part of the problem was if your battery was weak OR if your bike was HOT and you would just hold the start button down...the starter would try to turn over the engine, but this would sometimes frag the starter and take out the engine case.

Had to replace the starter clutch on my 02

Replaced my starter at 75K on the '00. Not sure if that was normal wear and tear, but ground off all the pinion cogs. Bump started the bike for three days on that ride.

The case protector is a very easy install and gives piece of mind for case damage. It's much cheaper then the '03+ upgrade.
