Why don't you just baffle them?
I picked up a set of TiForce Titanium mufflers and the base sound was way too loud....giving me ringing ears even on short rides. Ear plugs didnot help.
So I welded up some baffles ...basically a 5 inch long x 1.5 inch diameter pipe welded to a washer ( 2 1/4 inch washer with a 1.5 inch opening). I wanted the 1.5 inch opening because this is the stock muffler opening and I didnot wish to obstruct the flow.
Basically what this does is force the exhaust to go to the end of the muffler, take a reverse turn back 5 inches and out it goes. This causes the sound waves to dicipate. This is commonly used on the ricers cars.
I then took off the end cap (removed the rivets) and just placed the baffle in there and reinstalled the cap. Easily reversable if you want.

1) 1st picture is mod'd finished muffler
2) 2nd picture is photo of baffle installed in muffler. It is not welded in there (but could be if one wanted to)...rear cap rivets are drilled out/cap pulled off/baffle is installed/cap reinstalled with a rubber mallet (tap'd in) and re-riveted.
3) 3rd picture is that of a similar pipe/washer welded together....just a smaller version for another project.,,,but you get the idea.
