Oh sweet C8 H10 N4 O2, how long has it been now? A week? Yeah, about that.

Here's the story for those that didn't know. I decided, for no particular reason, to stop drinking pop/coke/soda. It's important to know that I was up to 6 cans of Mt. Dew per day.

Then one day about 1.5 weeks ago, I just decided I was done. $.75/can * 6 = $4.50/day! That's somewhere near $90/month (business days only) that I could be spending on my Busa. Nuff said.

Now I didn't just quit cold turkey. The first few days I cut back to 1 per day. It was hard but I did it. Then I found this really neat water bottle at the store. It's plastic of course, has a closable lid and it's thin enough I can carry it in my hand.

Here's the neatest part of it. It's insulated. Yeah, insulated. No no, not like you think. It actually has aluminum foil sandwiched between the layers. Very neat. It does keep my water cold until I've drank it so I like that.

Why is this important to me? Psychology. My brain WANTS to have me drinking something while I'm at my desk working. It's a habit for over 20 years now. Just happens. My brain is also pretty smart. It sees water and knows I don't do water, so I don't drink water. Well, with the foil there, I can't tell what's in the bottle. I add these powder flavorings to the water and voila, brain thinks I'm having something other than water and it's quite happy with it. See, brain isn't so smart.

I've attached a photo of my new bottle so you can trick your brain too.

(oh, and for those that don't know: C8 h10 n4 o2 = caffeine)

    Soda's can be addicting. They're just too easy to get and drink. Mountain Dew.....lotsa C8 h10 n4 o2 .

You are right about the action of drinking as a habit. I feel the same thing at parties or other types of gatherins, have to have something in my hand.

+1. I'm not a big soda drinker for one, here in Iraq it will mess you up really bad in the summer months. I hate drinking water but if I fill my camelback then I'm compelled to drink because its a drink. Weird how the mind thinks.
