what is with the page ho'ing? not sure I get it.. unwritten contest? some kind of award? proof I can count by increments of 20? 
didn't they get a place called the playground to drum up useless posts? or the anything goes thread?
As a web host myself I figured I would see what it costs..
Did some math on the issue...
server probably costs around $500 a month to run plus administrative time.. Although that part is free, it really is not.. so add $300 for 3 hours of time (I know this is way way short but had to put a number up..real number is likely 3X that)
That is $800 a month minimum for the .oRg to run.. Now we have 1 in 20 posts that is a usually a crap load of emoticons etc (they take much more bandwidth than text) so lets just call it an easy 6% of server load or about $50 a month to serve a post that says "page" but at least you get intelligent content..
I got a better use of $600 a year myself..(or 1 months expenses of server?)

i am stuck on the single most intense server load item.. the "Search" feature.. I do not have a large enough database on any of my VBB boxes to get an accurate idea of how much load a single search pulls.. I know way too much time on my hands..Posted 01-21-2009 at 07:40 AM by Mr Bogus -
