Re: Different Presidents, A different Corps
There are subtle differances on how Marines repsond in regards to if they are acting a specific way because they want to or if they are forced to.
Both ways are respectful, neither is disrespectful. but both show the true feelings of a Marine. usually only another Marine can pick up on it.
I work with a guy who's brother was a Marine one pilot for President Clinton. and MY uncle was a Marine one pilot for President Nixon.
Apparently Clinton, Gore, their wives, their staff and family were less than respectful when they were on Marine One. shelling peanuts, throwing them on the floor, basically just throwing garabge everywhere on the aircraft knowing the Marines would have to pick up their garabage. Actually what was I was told was anyone who worked around that environment felt they were, well being exposed to pigs. They did not seem to show much respect for anyone in the military in private, and only did so in public when it was neccesary.
A lot of things went on that did not show respect to Marines, nor to Marine aircraft. If a Marine is not shown respect, you will only receive the respect back that is required.
If you show respect to a Marine, that Marine will usually die for you. Otherwise your life is pretty much meaningless.
I know when a Marine is standing at the entrance of Marine one, they will stand a certain way and salute a certain with if they respect you with their heart. and they will stand a differant way if they are doing it because they are required to.
I know with Clinton, if you watch videos of his interaction with Marines and then watch President Bush's interaction's with Marines you can figure it out.
