I was able to remove my rear wheel, without removing the caliper. This may have been because I had the rear jacked up some. This allowed the rear wheel to drop down and out.
I did put a small scratch on the rim, next time, Ill remove the caliper or put some duct tape on the rim to protect it. Link to my K8 tire change:
